Gwinnett Commissioners authorized the Department of Fire Services on Dec. 15 to accept 800 Kidde smoke detectors, valued at $15,960 before tax. This donation is made in conjunction with Operation Save a Life, a joint partnership between WSB-TV Channel 2, Kidde, The Home Depot and Attorney Ken Nugent.

The smoke detectors are distributed to families who cannot afford to buy them. Firefighters will install the smoke detectors for free.
