A new mixed-use development in Gwinnett is starting construction and plans to add a go-kart facility, according to a press release.

The Exchange at Gwinnett’s first phase of construction is underway after Fuqua Development took out a $26.7 million loan from Trez Forman Capital, the lender said in a release. The project is planned for 100 acres of land on Buford Drive between Coolray Field and the Mall of Georgia.

The loan allowed Fuqua to acquire 67.5 acres for the Exchange. Fuqua sold 33 acres to three different owners; that land is expected to house a Topgolf, a Rooms-to-Go store and a 450-unit apartment complex, according to the release.

Plans for the development also include a new location for Andretti Indoor Karting and Games, a go-kart and arcade attraction with locations in Roswell and Marietta, according to the release. The planned Andretti site is on part of a 13-acre piece of land that Fuqua sold as four parcels, the release said.

The Exchange at Gwinnett is expected to have up to 1,000 apartments, hundreds of thousands of square feet of retail space and a variety of attractions. Plans submitted to Gwinnett County include a food hall, movie theater and potential space for a brewery or distillery. Restaurants are expected to include City Barbecue, Chipotle and Starbucks, according to the release.
