Gwinnett Medical Center’s Women’s Pavilion has been named a “Baby-Friendly Designated birth facility” by Baby-Friendly USA.

The designation recognizes the Women's Pavilion's policies that support breastfeeding mothers and their new babies, according to a hospital release. The program is based on the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.

“Achieving Baby-Friendly Designation is a result of years of preparation; making small changes along the way to educate, implement policy changes and to create a culture where breastfeeding support is a focus as we assist mothers in achieving their breastfeeding goals,” said Nicole Lescota, director of operations for Gwinnett Women’s Pavilion, in the release. “As a Baby-Friendly hospital, Gwinnett Women’s Pavilion demonstrates our commitment to high quality maternity care.”

The designation is also based on international guidelines sponsored by the World Health Organization and UNICEF. Full guidelines can be found at Baby-Friendly USA's website.
