A Lawrenceville man has been convicted of more than two dozen sexual abuse charges related to the rape and molestation of eight girls, some as young as 7 years old, according to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office.

Terry Askew, 54, faced 29 charges and was convicted Wednesday of 25 after an eight-day trial. He was acquitted of three counts of child molestation and one count of aggravated sodomy.

Askew’s victims included family members, neighbors and family friends, all females with ages ranging from 7 to 17. One victim, who had been molested repeatedly since age 7, confronted Askew in July 2016 after she learned Askew had also been molesting her best friend. She called police, leading to Askew’s arrest, the DA’s office said.

A police investigation found at least eight victims.

Text messages, diary entries and “disturbing videos” on Askew’s phone helped corroborate the testimony of the eight victims in court. The sexual abuse occurred repeatedly over the course of multiple years, the DA’s office said.

Askew was convicted of two counts of rape, two counts of incest, four counts of aggravated sexual battery, two counts of aggravated child molestation, one count of aggravated sodomy and 14 counts of child molestation.

He was sentenced to nine life sentences plus 324 years in prison.
