The government is seeking to hire 500,000 temporary 2020 Census workers across the nation next year.

The group tasked with drumming up Gwinnett County enthusiasm for the 2020 Census is holding a kickoff rally this weekend.

Naturally, there will be food trucks, free cotton candy and a K-pop band.

The Gwinnett County Complete Count Committee -- which has representatives from local governments, school districts, nonprofits and other community groups -- will host the family-friendly event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It will be held at the Bicentenntial Plaza, 275 South Perry St. in Lawrenceville.

In a press release about the event, officials said the rally will include kids activities, a DJ, food and speakers targeting different portions of Gwinnett’s diverse population.

A “local recording artist” and a K-pop -- short for Korean pop -- band are also on the schedule.

“Our goal is to get a 100 percent response rate,” said Phil Hoskins, deputy county administrator for Gwinnett County and co-chair of the complete count committee. “This count is crucial for representation and federal funding, and it also helps us understand our population and account for critical services our community needs like roads and senior services.”
