Original story (May 24): Gwinnett County will honor U.S. Army Spc. Etienne Murphy at its annual Memorial Day ceremony on May 28.
Murphy died at age 22 on May 26, 2017 in a vehicle rollover in northern Syria. He grew up largely in the Boston area, but spent his teen years in Snellville and graduated from South Gwinnett High School.

The Memorial Day ceremony will remember Murphy and other service members from Gwinnett County who have died serving in the military. Navy Capt. Baron V. Reinhold will deliver the keynote address. Reinhold is the commanding officer and professor for Navy science and Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at Morehouse College and Georgia Tech.
The ceremony will be held at the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial at 1 p.m. on Monday. The memorial is on the grounds of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, located at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville. The ceremony will also be broadcast at 8 p.m. Monday on TVgwinnett, a governent access cable channel. TVgwinnett can also be streamed at tvgwinnett.com.
