June 17, 2016

Several Gwinnett County community organizations are hosting events this weekend to remember Juneteenth, a celebration of the end of African-American slavery.

A gala is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Norcross Cultural Arts & Community Center, 10 College St NW, Norcross, to honor local leaders in education, government, business and religion. Tickets range from $25 to $50. The gala is also a fundraising for students aspiring to attend historically black colleges and universities.

On Saturday, a free celebration is scheduled at Thrasher Park, 93 Park Dr, Norcross, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
