Gwinnett County is reducing the hours its government center is open to the public in order to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The Gwinnett Justice and Administration is normally open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. The county announced Monday that the building would be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

The hour cut is part of the county’s greater effort to slow the spread of coronavirus. Nearly 200 cases of COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by coronavirus, had been recorded in the county as of 7 p.m. Monday, and two people in Gwinnett had died from the disease.

The county has also declared a state of emergency and issued a stay-at-home order until April 11. Many operations at GJAC have been scaled back already because of the virus. Trials and other court proceedings have been postponed through April 13, and many county employees are working from home. Residents should call 770-822-8000 before going to GJAC to see if their business can be done remotely.

There have been many questions throughout this outbreak about who can get tested and when.
