The Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services offers free home safety surveys and smoke alarm checks as one of its educational outreach programs.

During home safety surveys, firefighters and fire safety educators help occupants look for and eliminate home hazards that could cause a fire, or conditions that might contribute to unintentional injuries. Unsafe living conditions may include an overloaded electrical outlet or a fall hazard due to a throw rug.

Occupants have an opportunity to ask fire and emergency medical services professionals about important topics such as how to operate portable fire extinguishers or where medication information and medical history be kept for use by paramedics during an emergency at home.
