Col. Bill Williams of Gwinnett County will lead a specially organized Georgia Army National Guard team to Afghanistan in late April.

The Agribusiness Development Team will deploy for a year to help increase crop yields, control pests, improve crops and better irrigation. They will also work to improve domesticated animal populations.

The unit -- the first of it's kind in the Georgia Army National Guard -- includes horticulturalists, veterinarians, agricultural engineers, irrigation specialists, teachers and farmers who are guard members.
