The Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services is accepting applications for the next Citizens Fire Academy. The CFA is an 8-week volunteer program which allows citizens to learn about the fire and emergency services department. The CFA will be held 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday evenings Sept. 6 through Oct. 25 at various department locations depending on the program.

Topics include incident command, search and rescue, fire control, medical operations, fire and life safety education, communications/911, business services, hazardous materials, swiftwater rescue, and technical rescue. Participants will experience the day-to-day operations of a typical fire station by riding along during actual emergency calls.

Graduates of the CFA may become part of the Gwinnett Citizens Fire Academy Alumni Association. CFA Alumni members assist the department by volunteering at community smoke alarm blitzes, public education outreach programs, CPR classes and Safe Kids Gwinnett functions.

Information or to request an application: Community Risk Reduction Division/Education Section at 678-518-4845 or fireprograms@gwinnettcounty.com.
