Two Gwinnett teachers recently earned statewide honors from the Georgia Art Education Association.

Norcross Elementary School's Bobbi Adamcyzk was named the organization's Elementary Art Educator of the Year. North Gwinnett High School's Debi West was named Secondary Art Educator of the Year.

In a news release from Gwinnett County Public Schools, Adamczyk said she was "extremely honored."

"Each day I wake up knowing I serve creative individuals with unique gifts and perspectives to reach the world," she said.

Likewise, West said she was "beyond humbled."

"I am passionate about teaching our youth through the discipline of the visual arts and I firmly believe that hands-on, project based learning is what enables our students to authentically learn, and retain this new knowledge," she said.

Both teachers will be recognized and receive a plaque at the Georgia Art Education Association's Oct. 15 conference in Gainesville.
