Gwinnett Commissioners recently approved $625,000 for annual inspection, maintenance and repair services for fire hydrants to ensure efficient and reliable operation of the hydrants. Gwinnett has approximately 43,000 fire hydrants which are inspected every three years on a rotating basis. This schedule requires inspection and maintenance of 14,400 fire hydrants per year.

The contract approves $425,000 for work by American Flow Services LLC and $200,000 for work for Georgia Hydrant Services Inc. Market analysis done by the county shows a 7.5 percent increase in this type of service, but the vendors have agreed to hold pricing firm for this renewal period.
