The Gwinnett County Board of Education has approved the appointment of two new principals for the coming school year. The appointments, effective June 1, were filled as a result of personnel reassignments within the school system.

Melissa Walker, currently assistant principal at Harmony Elementary, has been named principal of Benefield Elementary in Lawrenceville. Walker began her teaching career in 1988 and moved to Gwinnett in 1999 as a teacher at Crews Middle. She received her doctoral degree in educational administration from Texas A&M.

She fills the position of Ron Boyd who transfers to another post within the school system.

LaVern W. Lynch, currently principal at Stockbridge Elementary in Henry County, will take the helm at Partee Elementary in Snellville.

Lynch served as principal at Norcross Elementary from 2002-2007 and began her teaching career in the Atlanta Public School System in 1986. She received her doctoral degree in educational administration from Georgia State University.

She fills the position vacated by the transfer of principal Audrey Baptiste to a middle school assistant principal role.
