Growth in Forsyth slows, but still political issue

An association of neighborhood residents in southwest Forsyth County is getting political.

Forsyth Citizens for Responsible Growth grew out of residents' concerns over a rezoning for homes and commercial space last year. It launched a drive to find a candidate to run for the county Board of Commissioners seat in District 3 against Commissioner Jim Harrell.

Lee Cohn, one of the organizers, said more than 1,000 residents from 70 neighborhoods emailed to Harrell concerns in 2009 about density of the Venable Hall development and the traffic it would produce. Harrell voted to approve the Venable Hall rezoning, against the residents requests.

"We've decided we'd look for a commissioner more receptive to following the land use plan and more receptive to moderate growth," Cohn said by phone.
