Local and state officials will gather next week for the groundbreaking of the Ga. 400 widening project in Forsyth County. The ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, at the GRTA Park and Ride Lot on North Old Atlanta Road adjacent to the freeway in Cumming.

The nearly $50 million project will add an additional lane in each direction between McFarland Road and Ga. 369 and is being done under a GDOT and Forsyth County partnership. Forsyth County’s portion of the funding-about $34.5 million-will come from a transportation bond approved by voters last year.

State officials said work removing and replacing damaged concrete sections will start this fall overnight and on weekends, with new construction set to begin next spring. Completion of the 13.4 mile project is set for June 1, 2018.
