Grandmothers for Peace arrested at war protest

Ten members of Grandmothers for Peace were arrested Monday during an anti-war protest at the Army Recruiting Station in Midtown Place Shopping Center.

Bobbie Paul, 58, of Atlanta, protests with other members of Grandmothers for Peace on Monday at the Army Recruiting Station in Midtown Place Shopping Center. Similar actions were taken in at least 17 other cities marking the fifth anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

(From left) Ann Mauney, 65, from Atlanta, Ella Ruth Hunnicutt, 79, from Roswell, and Judy Conder, 69, from Decatur, were among 10 women arrested for trespassing inside Army Recruiting Station. Those arrested ranged in age from 57 to 80. They were taken to the Rice Street Fulton County Jail. According to Sgt. C. Mack, one of the three officers on the scene, the women were expected to stay there for three to four hours.

The protesters were brought into jail on Monday from the Atlanta Police Department for protesting in front of the recruiting center across from City Hall East. All women were charged with criminal trespass and released on their own recognizance. The following are their mug shots: Doris Benit, 80.
