Grady babies

Being born at Grady Memorial Hospital has a certain mystique in Atlanta. Several prominent people have gotten their starts there.

Brenda Lee, who recorded the Christmas classic "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" in 1958 when she was only 13, was born at Grady Memorial Hospital in 1944.

Outkast's Andre 3000 was born Andre Benjamin in 1975.

Amy Ray (right) formed the Indigo Girls with Emily Saliers. She was born while her physician father was training at Grady.

Former Atlanta Solicitor Louise Hornsby was born at Grady.

Dr. Louis Sullivan (left), former president of Morehouse School of Medicine and former secretary of Health and Human Services, was born in 1933.

Clifford Harris, now known as rapper T.I., was born at Grady in 1980.

Calvin Fluellen is known as the "mayor of Manuel's Tavern." He worked at the hospital as an X-ray technologist for 30 years.

The Rev. Cameron Alexander is the longtime pastor at Antioch Baptist Church North in Atlanta.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Marvin Arrington (right), who faced Bill Campbell in a runoff for mayor, and his four siblings are Grady babies.

Being a Grady baby identifies someone as a true Atlanta native. A number of high-profile people got their starts in life at the hospital. Vernon Jordan (left), a close adviser to President Bill Clinton, was born there in 1935.
