DeKalb County has a new Goodwill store, which was celebrated Thursday with the staff’s creative rendition of the hit Lil Nas X song “Old Town Road,” with the lyrics altered to promote the nonprofit.

The store, which is also a donation center, is located near the corner of South Hairston Road and Covington Highway.

“I’m gonna take my clothes to the new Goodwill, I’m going to donate till I can’t no more. I’m gonna to take my clothes to the new Goodwill, I’m gonna shop till I can’t no more,” the staff members sang at the grand opening Thursday.

Lil Nas X, who is originally from Atlanta, is currently enjoying his 10th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Old Town Road.”

(For those who somehow haven’t heard the No. 1 smash, the original lyrics are: “I'm gonna take my horse to the old town road, I'm gonna ride 'til I can't no more.”)

DeKalb County Commissioner Mereda Davis Johnson attended the grand opening and posted a video of the performance on Twitter.

At the opening for every Goodwill location, team members put together a song and performance to celebrate the new store, company spokeswoman Summer Dunman said.

“Every store is different but today was definitely a creative and memorable performance,” Dunham said Thursday.

The Goodwill on South Hairston replaced a Publix that was previously at the location and closed in 2018.
