A Gwinnett County man had a unique perspective after a tree crashed through the roof of his house Monday, sending him to a hospital.
“I never thought,” George Wiggins II told Channel 2 Action News, “that I would get beat up by a tree.”
The ordeal began about 8:30 p.m., when the family was eating dinner in their home on Riverglen Circle in Suwanee.
Suddenly, “It was like a crushing sound coming through the window,” said Kevin Wiggins, George’s father. “So the table, the glass from the window, and the tree were all on top of my son.”
George, 27, recalled hearing a slight crack — “I thought it was lightning.”
Paramedics, likely busy with matters relating to Tropical Storm Irma, said it would take some time for them to get there.
So George’s younger brother began driving him to a local hospital, Channel 2 reported.
But he hydroplaned on the wet roads and crashed on the way. That’s when two good Samaritans stepped up, taking George the rest of the way to the hospital.
“If they see this today, I want to say thank you to them,” Alesa Wiggins, George’s mother, told Channel 2.
“You only see stuff like this in movies,” Alesa Wiggins said of the incident.
George Wiggins wound up with 76 stitches and a concussion. And he learned a painful lesson.
“Be careful,” he said. “When it comes to a storm, don’t play around with it.”
