Two people were rescued from the water near Brunswick on Monday afternoon after their flat-bottomed boat capsized.

The U.S. Coast Guard pulled one person to safety and a good Samaritan who saw the crisis rescued the second. That person was reported unconscious, according to the Coast Guard.

It is not known what caused the 17-foot utility boat, also known as a jon boat, to capsize. The Coast Guard’s Charleston sector received a report of the emergency about 1:30 p.m.

The response boat was on scene about 10 minutes later.

The incident remains under investigation.
