A former 200-acre golf course on the eastern edge of Fayette County is about to become a law enforcement training facility. On June 11 the Board of Commissioners voted 4-0-1 to approve the Links Master Plan, which will spend $1.65 million over several years to build a driver training course, classrooms and indoor and outdoor shooting ranges. Sheriff Barry Babb said the facility will train officers in “legal and constitutionally sound tactics” necessary to address modern law enforcement situations. City officials have met with nearby residents and are using a consultant service to mitigate noise issues.
