Join Starbucks, The Mission Continues to celebrate MLK
Starbucks, in partnership with The Mission Continues, will honor the Rev. Martin Luther King’s legacy of service by bringing more than 300 Starbucks partners (employees), community members and local leaders together in Atlanta to volunteer at the Salvation Army Bellwood Boys & Girls Club.
They will work together to help refurbish the space, including painting the pool area, painting and installing new cabintes and desks in the art room, painting the stairwell, building building an outdoor fitness area, and more.
The project is part of Starbucks annual week of service that honors King’s legacy to empower individuals and strengthen communities. Running from Jan. 12 through Jan. 21, more than 200 projects led by Starbucks partners will occur across the country. Members of the community are encouraged to join.

Weekend of King service projects
Volunteer for the 16th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Service Project held the weekend of Jan. 13-15. Volunteers work at senior citizens’ homes in Oakhurst, making greatly needed repairs and doing yard work that elderly homeowners have been unable to afford.
All volunteers are invited to attend a celebration cookout on Monday, Jan. 15, at 5 p.m. at the Solarium.
When signing up, please indicate the shift(s) selected, and any specific skills (such as carpentry, general home repair, painting, drywall installation and repair, plumbing, gardening, landscaping, etc.). Such skills are not necessary, but help in assigning tasks. Although a limited number of tools and work gloves will be available, volunteers are encouraged to bring tools to use (hammers, saws, drills, and other tools; rakes, clippers, loppers and other yard work implements).
Make sure tools are clearly marked for identification purposes. To make this project more environmentally friendly, volunteers are also asked to bring a reusable water bottle.
When: Volunteers may sign up for one or more of the following shifts:
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13
1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15
Where: homes throughout Oakhurst; meet at the Solarium at the Community Center of South Decatur, 321 W. Hill St. in the Oakhurst section of Decatur, at least a half-hour before shifts start.
