Volunteers needed for DeKalb County homeless count

DeKalb County Community Development Department is looking for 100 volunteers to sign up for a street count and survey of the county’s homeless. The count will take place overnight.

Volunteers will meet at their designated deployment locations for training and enumeration team assignments. Teams will be comprised of three to four community volunteers: a driver, navigator, recorder and surveyor. Utilizing a smartphone app and real-time mapping from DeKalb County’s GIS department, participants will track the location and demographic information of homeless citizens.

When: starting at 9 p.m. Jan. 26 and lasting overnight

Volunteers needed for DeKalb County homeless count

Fulton County needs volunteers for the Point in Time Homeless Count to be conducted by the Fulton County Continuum of Care. Volunteers will work closely with county leaders, police and community organizations to gather accurate information about the number of homeless people residing within the many cities that make up Fulton County, including Alpharetta, Roswell, Union City, College Park, East Point, Palmetto and Fairburn.

Volunteers assisting with the Count will focus on veterans, single women with children, youth, and other unsheltered homeless who are sleeping in outdoor locations such as sidewalks, parks, encampments and under bridges. The PIT Count will also include all of the sheltered homeless, who are staying in emergency shelters and transitional housing programs.

When: 8 p.m. Jan. 26 through 3 a.m. Jan. 27
