Girls go computer crazy at Cobb geek camp

A hundred girls are learning the ins and outs of a computer at Geek Squad Summer Academy. It's a three-day technology camp at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta.

It's a three-day technology camp at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta. Here, Amiya examines a fan and heat sink in a class where the girls learn to assemble a PC computer from scratch.

Emma Ensley, 11, (center, with arms up), Leanne Villanueva, 11, and Maria Granros, 11, all from Marietta perform "geek exercises" in the digital music class. Teen campers learn how to use and customize social networking tools, use technology to create and record digital music and use multimedia.

Maria Granros, 11, from Marietta, in the digital music class, works with a virtual keyboard. The camp's curriculum is based on "usable technology."

Members of the multimedia class crowd around to photograph a big bug one of them found on a tree trunk. They were outside taking photos which they later worked on with their computers.

Amber Martin, 15, from Dallas, and Ashton Brooks, 15, from Cartersville, learn to use a virtual keyboard in the digital music class.

Dorena Nguyen, (left) 13, and Abby Criswell, 13, take digital photos of themselves for the multimedia class. Later in the session, they transfered the photos to their computers.

Bria Dubose', 12, from Marietta, and Charnelle Hutson, 12, from Marietta, ham it up while having their photos taken during a photo session for the multimedia class. They were outside taking photos which they later worked on in the classroom.

Leora San Miguel, 15, from Marietta, looks over her digital photos in the multimedia class. The class had just returned from a photo taking session outside.

Emma Ensley, 11, of Marietta, was in the digital music class learning to use a virtual keyboard -- a piano keyboard on the computer screen.

Arianna Sanson, 12, of Stone Mountain, works on a motherboard in the PC-Build class.

Markiyah Davis, 11, from Loganville, during a photo session as part of the multimedia class. Later, she downloaded the photos to her computer.

Paige Hubbell, from Minneapolis, leads the digital music class in "geek exercises" and a cheer.
