A 14-year-old Clarke County girl was arrested Thursday for bringing a knife to her Athens middle school.

The school resource officer at Clarke Middle School was advised about 8:30 a.m. Thursday that two students were about to fight in one of the hallways, Athens-Clarke County police spokeswoman Hilda Sorrow said.

"He made contact with the students and learned one had a knife in her locker," Sorrow said. "The locker was opened and a steak knife recovered."

The girl, whose name was not released because of her age, was taken into custody and transported to a youth detention center. She was charged with having a weapon on school property and carrying a concealed weapon, Sorrow said.
