Atlanta police are investigating the armed robbery of a Georgia Tech student in a neighborhood just north of campus.

The male student was robbed at gunpoint around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday while walking near the intersection of Calhoun and Center streets, in the Home Park neighborhood where numerous other students have been accosted in the past couple of years.

According to a crime alert posted by Georgia Tech police, the gunman approached the student, pointed a black handgun at him and demanded the student's backpack.

The student gave the man his backpack and was told to walk away. The suspect fled in an unknown direction.

Tech police described the suspect as a black male, about 25 years old, 5 feet, 8 inches tall and with a thin build. He was wearing a white shirt and black pants.
