Georgia Tech received $3.1 million in scholarships, fellowships, research grants and equipment upgrades as part of a nationwide push to foster the nuclear industry.

The awards, announced Tuesday by Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, divide the federal money among 46 colleges.

The federal department handed out 143 awards worth $47 million through the Nuclear Energy University Program and Integrated University Program.
