Georgia State University received a federal grant worth $398,586 to prepare aspiring teachers for the classroom. The Transition to Teaching program run by the U.S. Department of Education targets mid-career professionals who want to switch careers and recent college graduates who earned degrees in areas other than education. Anyone who participates in the program must work in a high-need school for at least three years. Georgia State was one of 30 projects nationwide -- and the only one in the state -- to receive a grant.
