The Board of Directors of the Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals have appointed Debbie Martin to succeed Jane Stewart as executive director, who is leaving to become executive director of the Athens Area Humane Society.

Most recently, Martin was president of the Humane Society of Houston County where she managed day-to-day operations, budget, adoption and volunteer program, hosted events and fundraisers, and assisted with the rescue of hundreds of unwanted and abandoned animals.

Last year the GA SPCA shelter, located at 1175 Highway 23/Buford Highway in Suwanee, placed 1,330 animals in new homes, and provided low cost spay/neuter and vaccination services to more than 2000 dogs and cats.
