Georgians are paying about $1 more per gallon for gas than this time last year.

The average price Sunday in Georgia was $3.71 a gallon, up from $2.74 last April, according to the Daily Fuel Gauge Report compiled by AAA. Statewide, gas prices are highest in the Savannah area.

But that's still cheaper than in six other states and Washington D.C., where gas prices have topped $4 a gallon. New York joins Alaska, California, Connecticut, Hawaii and Illinois as being the priciest spots to fuel up, according to the AAA.

Indiana and Michigan could be the next states in the $4 club, along with Nevada, Washington and Wisconsin. The national average per gallon is $3.83.
