To help motorists get around over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced a suspension of construction-related lane closures.

Interstate highways, heavily traveled state routes and roadways near major shopping centers, malls, shopping districts and tourist locations will get a reprieve from lane closings from 5 a.m. Dec. 22 to 10 p.m. Dec. 26 and from 5 a.m., Dec. 29 to 5 a.m. Jan. 2.

GDOT advises work crews may still be present and safety concerns may require some long-term lane closures to remain in place. Lanes also could be shut down at any time due to traffic incidents, emergencies or maintenance-related issues. For information about travel conditions, call 511 or go to: www.511ga.org.
