One of the exit ramps from northbound Ga. 400 to Abernathy Road in the Sandy Springs-Dunwoody area is scheduled to close permanently on Thursday, the Georgia Department of Transportation announced.

The closure of Exit 5B to westbound Abernathy, a partial cloverleaf, is to accommodate construction of a diverging diamond interchange of Abernathy and new collector-distributor bridges over the road, GDOT said.

Traffic from northbound Ga. 400 to both westbound and eastbound Abernathy will share Exit 5A. Signage will be in place to direct motorists to the new exit configuration.

The work is part of the ongoing reconstruction of the Ga. 400/I-285 interchange in the top-end Perimeter area of North Fulton and DeKalb counties. All work is "weather permitting" and subject to change. Information: https://bit.ly/3deFdSV
