A 13-year-old Whitfield County boy has been identified by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation as the victim of a drowning at Al Rollins Park that was reported last Friday, Dalton police said.

Detectives continue to investigate what Raul Juan was doing in the early morning hours before he drowned in a pond at the park, Dalton police spokesman Bruce Frazier said Tuesday afternoon.

Juan was reported missing to the Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office around 6 a.m. Friday when his mother woke up and saw that he was not at home, Frazier said in an email to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

His mother said she had last seen him at home at about 1 a.m., Frazier said.

He said that, “Nothing found either at the scene of the drowning nor during the autopsy suggests any foul play.”

There were no signs of obvious injuries to the body or any signs of struggle or foul play at the scene, Frazier said last week.

A passerby reported the discovery at 7:31 a.m. Friday, Frazier said, and police went to the scene at Threadmill Road, which is about 87 miles northwest of Atlanta.
