Gas prices in Georgia are back on the rise, fueled by a surge in crude oil prices tied to unrest in Libya and the Middle East.

The average price of regular unleaded is $3.47, up from $3.44 a week ago.

Crude oil closed at $105.40 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange Friday. That represented a $4.33 increase from a week before.

"Consumers can expect retail gas prices to gain back any price drops seen in the past couple of weeks and then some," AAA South spokeswoman Jessica Brady said. "As long as the turmoil in the Middle East continues, we can expect to see elevated oil prices, especially when we hit the summer driving season and demand increases."

The average price per gallon in metro Atlanta is $3.47 -- compared to $3.29 a month ago and $2.69 a year ago.
