A Publix and several other nearby businesses in Johns Creek were evacuated Wednesday after a gas leak was reported behind the grocery store.

The Publix and surrounding businesses are located near the intersection of Medlock Bridge and State Bridge roads.

Utility crews cut a line behind the store, the Johns Creek fire department told Channel 2 Action News, but kept the Publix and other businesses closed as a safety precaution. The leak was first reported around 3 p.m.

A repair crew is on the scene and has cut off the leak. They will allow employees and customers to re-enter businesses when the repairs are finished.

Johns Creek police and the gas company was also at the scene.
