As police investigate, a funeral has been set for a DeKalb County high school student and lacrosse player found gunned down in his driveway.

Friends and family will gather to remember Keschon Kerns on Saturday at 1 p.m. at The Covenant Church, 1700 Corey Blvd., Decatur.

Kerns, 18, was found Sunday morning after his grandfather went to wake him up for work. The grandfather looked outside and reportedly saw the young man between a car and lawn mower in the driveway on Harvest Hill Court off Wesley Chapel Road.

Kerns, who worked at a Japanese restaurant and was a rising senior, was shot three times — one each to the left wrist, shoulder and back. A neighbor told police he heard five gunshots at 10:30 or 11 p.m. Saturday.

Police haven’t revealed a possible motive or said if they have suspects in mind.

Cousin Jamel Kerns, who also lives in the house, started a fundraiser for funeral expenses.

“This incident has devastated the family,” he wrote. “(He and) his twin sister, Kiyanna Kerns, recently lost (their) mother to kidney failure and now has lost her brother to senseless violence.”

A DeKalb County Schools spokesman said school staff plans to attend the funeral.
