One week after a 5-year-old boy drowned at summer camp, friends and family will gather Friday for his funeral.

Benjamin “Kamau” Hosch, III, 5 of Newnan, died July 21 when he was found under water at Camp Cricket, being held at Cochran Mill Nature Center in south Fulton County. Kamau disappeared after lunch, when the 13 campers had been allowed to splash in shallow water, according to investigators. But Kamau somehow wandered away unnoticed by the four adults with his group. He later died at the hospital.

Visitation for Kamau will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan, according to his online obituary. The funeral will follow at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Summit Family YMCA in Newnan.

Kamau's parents said Monday they plan to file a lawsuit against the camp, which declined to comment Tuesday. In an emailed statement Monday, a camp spokesman said the nature center had hosted events for children for 23 years without incident.

On Monday, the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning, or DECAL, said the camp was unlicensed and shut it down. The agency is investigating the boy’s death.

Ayisat Idris-Hosch, the mother of Benjamin "Kamau" Hosch III, was overcome with grief Monday as she talked about her son’s death.
