A funeral for Imani Bell, a Clayton County student who died last week after a conditioning drill at Elite Scholars Academy, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hillside Chapel and Truth Center, 2450 Cascade Road, S.W. in Atlanta.

A wake for the 16-year-old is scheduled for Friday from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at Divine Faith Ministries International, 9800 Tara Boulevard in Jonesboro.

According to her family, the teen, a basketball player at the Academy, was running in extreme heat last Tuesday during a conditioning drill. After reportedly telling her coach that she was feeling ill, she was told to run up steps. She later collapsed and died.

A candlelight vigil is planned for Bell  for Wednesday from 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at Dixon Grove Baptist Church, 7690 Fielder Road in Jonesboro. Those in attendance are asked to wear a shade of purple, according to a Facebook post.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
