Saying they aim to make the streets of Atlanta safer, law enforcement and community advocates are seeking to raise $100,000 to support the next Gun Buy Back effort of the Fulton County Sheriff’s office.

If successful, that amount would be more than triple the $30,000 raised in 2014, which was enough to take more than 1,000 firearms off the streets. Cash donations can be made via PayPal at www.fultonsheriff.net or sent to the Rev. R.L. White at Mount Ephraim Baptist Church, 1202 W. Marietta St. NW, Atlanta, GA30318, telephone 404-794-1470.

The “no questions asked” buy back would have individuals exchange guns or unused ammunition for cash; inoperable weapons would be purchased at a reduced rate. The location of the buy back and other details will be announced closer to the June 9 event date.

The program is a partnership of the sheriff’s office, Atlanta Police Department, FCSO Chaplaincy Program and the community organization Stop Atlanta Violence Effectively (S.A.V.E.).
