Fulton County has begun the process of hiring an outside lobbyist to protect its interests in the next state Legislative session, when Northside lawmakers could start efforts to dismantle the county government’s powers. Commissioners have been unable to agree on whether to look for an outside lobbying firm, use lobbyists on the payroll, or both. Commissioner Robb Pitts finally got enough votes on Wednesday to solicit bids.

Dissenting Commissioner Liz Hausmann said lawmakers frown upon the county spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on lobbying. Chairman John Eaves, who also voted no, said commissioners themselves should speak out at the Capitol.
