A Fulton County middle school teacher was arrested after she allegedly mistreated special-needs students, officials said.
Lavonne Alioth, a teacher at Camp Creek Middle School at 4345 Welcome All Road in south Fulton County, was charged with three counts of child cruelty, according to Fulton jail records.
The complaints against her include, among other things, forcing a special needs student to stand up for the duration of the class, schools spokeswoman Samantha Evans told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Arrest warrants obtained by Channel 2 Action News said Alioth punished a special-needs student by forcing him to stand in a corner for more than seven hours, deprived the student of adequate food, and played rap music with offensive language that included the N-word.
The warrants also indicated that Alioth forced a handicapped student to get into a yoga position as a punishment, and covered the head of another student in a wheelchair with a sheet because she was loud, Channel 2 reported.
Attempts to reach Alioth by phone Thursday were unsuccessful, and Camp Creek principal DeMarcos Holland declined to comment when reached Thursday by phone.
Alioth was arrested on March 1 by Fulton County Sheriff’s deputies and released Sunday on $24,000 bond.
