Fulton library system to close Buckhead, Northside for renovation

The Fulton County Library System announced recently it will be closing the Buckhead and Northside libraries this month for renovation.

The Buckhead Library, 269 Buckhead Ave. NE and the Northside Library, 3295 Northside Parkway NW are the latest temporary library closures as part of the ongoing Library Renovation Project. Patrons are reminded to transfer hold items, locate a nearby library to return library materials and search for library programs at or use the Library System’s library locator tool to search for an alternate library.

The Buckhead Library will close to the public at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 20 and the Northside Library will close to the public at 6 p.m. Friday, June 21 in order to begin extensive renovation work, as part of the Library’s Capital Improvement Program, Phase II project.

The design/build team of Evergreen Construction and McAfee3 Architects has contracted with Fulton County to provide design, engineering and construction management services for the Buckhead Library and Northside Library projects and Heery/Russell is the program management team.

“The closing of the Buckhead and Northside Libraries is part of a two-year effort to redesign and modernize 23 of the County’s 34 libraries. Upgrades will include items like new HVAC systems, roofing, upgraded technology, improved layouts, new shelving, study rooms, ADA accessible restrooms, and more,” said Gabriel Morley, director of the Fulton County Library System. “While we know the closing of this library will bring some inconvenience, the result will be well worth it. We look forward to completing the renovations as quickly as possible and re-opening beautiful renovated libraries that can serve the community more efficiently.”

New construction is expected to take six t0 nine months. During construction library service will be available at the following nearby locations:

  • Peachtree Library, 1315 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta
  • Ponce De Leon Library, 980 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Atlanta
  • Northwest Library at Scott’s Crossing, 2489 Perry Blvd, Atlanta

The Sandy Springs Library and the Kirkwood Library will also re-open after renovation this summer and will soon be available as alternate locations, as well.
