Thanks to a federal grant, Fulton County Superior Court will launch an intervention program for veterans who run afoul of the law because of addictions, post-traumatic stress disorder, mental illness or other disorders. The county received a $750,000 grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The Veterans Expanded Treatment Services, or VETS, program will be the first its kind in metro Atlanta. Fulton’s Accountability Court hopes to create treatment and recovery plans for 40 war veterans per year.
