Fulton Chief Appraiser Burt Manning has sped up his retirement by two months so he can start a new job with the state. Feb. 14 will be his last day with the county, then he will go to work for the Revenue Department as a development and training specialist supervisor, training appraisers, assessors board members and tax commissioners throughout the state.

He originally planned to retire in April and do contract work, but Manning said he changed his mind when the state job opened up. Assistant Chief Appraiser David Fitzgibbon will likely service as acting chief appraiser, Manning said.
