Traffic in downtown Kennesaw was disrupted just in time for the Thursday afternoon rush hour when a tractor-trailer ruptured its fuel tank going over a railroad grade crossing, police said.

The incident happened about 3:30 p.m. where Cherokee Street crosses the CSX tracks, according to Officer Scott Luther, spokesman for the Kennesaw Police Department.

The truck continued past the crossing into the intersection of Cherokee and Main Street, spilling fuel as it went, Luther said. The Cobb County Fire Department responded and spread sand to soak up the fuel. No injuries were reported.

No citations had been issued as of Thursday afternoon. An investigation was continuing.

The streets were reopened by about 5:30 p.m.
