Cobb County Library patrons at two branches will be able to acquire a free annual pass that admits two adults and two children into the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History.

To receive the pass, library patrons will be required to check out, view at home and return a brief, informative DVD explaining the history surrounding the Southern Museum, 2829 Cherokee St., Kennesaw.

This program will be piloted at the Kennesaw and Acworth libraries for six months and then re-evaluated to determine its continuation or expansion into all 16 branches of the library system.

A Smithsonian Affiliations member, the museum is home to the General locomotive, made famous during the Great Locomotive Chase of 1862, a Civil War collection and the Glover Machine Works, a restored early 20th century belt-driven locomotive assembly line.
