A man died Sunday after being shot multiple times at an apartment building near Norcross, Gwinnett police said Tuesday.

Around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, police responded to the scene of a shooting at the Paces Crossing apartments at 4300 Jimmy Carter Blvd. in unincorporated Norcross, Cpl. Jake Smith said.

A man in his mid-30s was found on the floor near the door of his apartment with multiple gunshot wounds, Smith said. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died. His name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation is continuing.

The case is not believed to be connected to the death of a man found around 1 a.m. Sunday behind a Norcross-area restaurant, police said.

A woman told a police officer she saw a suspicious man behind a restaurant and shopping center in the 6100 block of South Norcross Tucker Road.

The officer found the man in the wooded area behind the facility. He appeared to have multiple gunshot wounds, police said. He has not been identified, but authorities describe him as a 40- to 45-year-old Hispanic man.

Gwinnett police ask anyone with information on either case to contact the homicide unit at 770-513-5300.
