Citing a recent spate of citations to motorists allegedly driving faster than 90 and even 100 mph on Ga. 400, Forsyth County Sheriff Ron H. Freeman has posted a Facebook "rant" urging drivers to "slow your behinds down" and warning of stepped-up traffic enforcement.

Forsyth Sheriff’s deputies “are seeing speeds on Ga. 400 that would make NASCAR blush,” Freeman said. “Just this past Thursday, I stopped an 18-year-old driving 103+ mph on Ga. 400 South near Pilgrim Mill Road.”

Deputies in recent weeks have issued nine citations for speeds ranging from 90 to 111 mph in a 55 mph zone, which puts them in the category of “super speeders,” Freeman said. A super speeder citation can bring a fine of $200 in addition to local fines and fees, according to the Georgia Department of Drivers Services.

“We are increasing our presence on Ga. 400 and other roadways until drivers regain their sanity and construction eases,” Freeman said. “We will be writing tickets if you endanger others. We would much rather meet you some other way than on the side of the road.”
