Forsyth County officials will hold a groundbreaking for the newest addition to the county’s park system later this week.

The ceremony to inaugurate construction on the Matt Community Park at Settingdown Creek is set for 10 a.m. Friday, July 17, at the park site on Wallace Tatum Road near Doctor Bramblett Road and Forsyth County Fire Station 3.

County spokeswoman Jodi Gardner said that the first phase of the northern Forsyth park, totaling approximately $10.1 million, is set for completion in the spring of 2016, and will consist of four synthetic-turf rectangular fields, a walking trail, playground, concession area and restrooms.

It’s being funded by a combination of proceeds from a 2008 park bond issue approved by voters and county impact fees.
